  • Hoarfrost on Leaves - this was not the version I intended to post, but, oh, well....
  • Infected Squirrel - Around Dec. 18 I noticed a squirrel at our feeder with what looked like a huge tumor on its back; several days later I saw a squirrel with lots of what appeared to be dried pus on its back. I surmised that, rather than a tumor, the squirrel had some kind of infection that was draining. I continued to get shots of this same squirrel over the next month. Eventually, the area of dried pus seemed to be smaller and, finally, in the last images, you can see that it has mostly fallen off, although the entire area still seems very red and irritated. The squirrel always eats a huge amount at the feeder and seems to be as agile as ever. I wonder what caused the infection...an injury from another squirrel, a raptor or cat?

This shot of the Blue Jay really shows how beautiful its blue feathers are in the right light. He looks like he's wondering why all the peanuts are down there on the bottom, and why you haven't filled it up to the top to make it easy for him! ;-)
