1. Daily shots for the dailies forum on Dgrin

Dailies

These images are ones shot to post in the daily community on smugmug. I've been participating in this community for about twelve years. For the first few years, I tried to always post a shot taken either that day or the day before. Now, although I try to shoot everyday, I don't necessarily post the images on the same day they are shot.

A brown pelican grooms its feathers in the Everglades; I think the detail on the feathers is pretty neat, so be sure to look at it at 3x at least to see the detail. I'm so pleased that so many of you like my pics from the skateboarding park. I really enjoy taking those shots. Some of you asked about the processing. They have all been processed to make them look something like an HDR shot. The actual steps and effects that have been applied vary, but I've used Topaz Adjust, Photmatix, and various photoshop filter effects and blending modes, as well as some basic photoshop stuff. Anyway, thanks a bunch for all the comments. Wednesday is supposed to be very nice here, so I may get a chance to work in the garden some more. Have a great day, everyone!

• The moon rises over the Everglades and a mockingbird perched at the top of a Norfolk Island Pine tree. Lots of great images today from young, older and in-between. So much talent leaves me awed! Have a great Sunday!
• Sunset in the Everglades on Chokoloskee Island, Florida, looking over the Gulf. If you look at this in the largest size and focus on the area just above the bottom silhouette that goes across the image, you will see silhouettes of various birds flying. Kind of interesting. I especially liked the way the light hit the house on the left. Hope everyone has a really nice day....we are supposed to get up to 64 degrees but with a lot of wind. If you are actually having spring where you are, I hope you can get out and enjoy it!
• The activity at the marina at Chokoloskee Island in late afternoon. The pelicans are waiting for the fishing boats to come in, hoping that the fishermen cleaning their fish will toss them something. View this in the largest sizes to see the details on the birds.
• A little blue heron in the Audubon Corkscrew Sanctuary in Florida; view in the largest sizes to see the details. These birds are one of my favorites, as their color is such a rich blue/grey and they photograph so well. They were also one of the most aggressive birds in terms of their behavior in scaring off other birds in the area. Hope everyone has a nice day. It was rainy here today and is supposed to be the same tomorrow. We're grateful for the moisture, as it has been so dry.
• This little blue heron has its feathers ruffled up because it has just driven away another bird. View in the largest sizes to see the feather and head details. I've been busy trying to get all my images from the Everglades, Big Bend and Carlsbad Caverns processed and I've got about half of them up now. I'm really pooped and am going to post a bit early and hit the sack! Hope your day is grand...we're supposed to have another big snow storm come in tomorrow afternoon. Oh, well, that's the way it goes! Hope you like the shot...it is one of my favorites from the trip.
• A roseate spoonbill in the Audubon Corkscrew Sanctuary in Florida; view this image in the largest sizes to see the details. I found the roseate spoonbills to be the most difficult birds to photograph well. Their feathers seem to reflect the light differently from all the other birds, so pictures of them tended to be overexposed. The snow seems to have stopped falling, finally, and tomorrow promises to be much warmer. We ended up with about 12 inches, but my daughter who lives in Conifer got over 4 feet of snow and they have not had any power all day. They were getting pretty cold. I'm looking forward to a nice day and hope you all have the same!
• A juvenile white ibis in the Audubon Corkscrew Sanctuary in Florida. View the detail in the largest sizes. Hope everyone had a great weekend. Your comments on my images were very much appreciated! I certainly enjoyed looking at all the great images posted this weekend. Have a nice day!
• A roseate spoonbill vocalizing in the Audubon Corkscrew Sanctuary in Florida; view this image in the largest sizes to see the detail of the bird. Lots of great images today, although that is the case every day. I had a great time looking at them! Have a nice spring day!
• A great white egret in the Audubon Corkscrew Sanctuary in Florida; view this in the largest sizes to see the feather and feet detail. I'm off to bed as soon as I post this shot. Later, I hope to catch the Thunderbirds in flight as they salute the Air Force Academy grads.
• This shot provides a good look at the feathers of a brown pelican; I find it mindboggling how incredibly lovely the placement of each individual feather is; it is like a robe made for royalty. You need to view this image in the largest sizes to see these feather details. Pelicans are fascinating birds. I have a lot more shots of them, which you can see here in my gallery: http://fotoeffects.smugmug.com/gallery/7774833_GfjYC#P-1-12. Lots of fantastic shots on smugmug today. We're still having trouble with our internet access from Qwest and I found out tonight that everyone else in our neighborhood who uses Qwest is having the same problems. Hopefully, we'll get them to fix it tomorrow, as someone is coming out to the house. Hope you all have a great day!

• A brown pelican in flight over the Everglades, near Chokoloskee Island, Florida. View in the largest size to see the detail of the feathers and head. I took lots of shots of pelicans on our trip and I'm sure I'll post some more of them. They are fascinating birds. Hope everyone has a great day! As soon as I post this, I'm heading up to bed. I'll check everyone's posts later today.
• A pelican in flight over the Everglades near Chokoloskee Island; view in the largest sizes to see the detail. Thanks for the comments today on one of my earlier dailies. Such a surprise to see that one up on the "Most Popular." There were sure an abundance of fabulous shots today, but I think my favorite was Gail's (Curious Camel) lineup of the tiny puppies. I can't imagine how she got them to stay lined up long enough to take a shot. Have a great day everyone!
• A juvenile white ibis grooms its feathers in the Big Cypress Swamp in the Everglades; in its first summer, the white ibis has this plumage; earlier in the year, its plumage is even more brown. View in the largest sizes to see the feather and beak detail. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
• A tricolor heron, photographed at Big Cypress swamp in the Everglades; best viewed in the largest sizes to see the detail on the heron. On this shot, I especially liked the movement of the foot in the water. This bird's feathers always seem to look more subdued and soft, but I think this is just the way it is. I'm going camping in the mountains today and won't be able to post for the next few days, so I'm going to post some extra shots today before I go. I'm hoping that some of you will at least have a chance to see them and comment. Thanks, as always, for the comments. I really appreciate them.
• Tulips at Bellingrath Gardens in the spring, taken on our recent trip; view in the largest sizes to see the detail of the flowers. A number of you have asked if I have a program I use for my framing. I often use OnOne Software's Suite, which includes a framing plug-in. Recently, I have been experimenting with a lot of their frames, just to see what people like. I'm not sure I always like the frames, particularly the more unusual ones. Sometimes I do think they set the images off pretty well. Other times, I make my own frames in Photoshop. We've had snow on and off all day today and are supposed to get more tomorrow. The accumulations have not been that great --- about 8 inches, but Colorado needs all the moisture it can get. Thanks for the nice comments on my red wasp. Hope you have a great day!
• Tulips against the sky; please view in the largest sizes to see the flower detail. This shot was taken on our recent trip when we visited Bellingrath Gardens in Alabama. These gardens are fabulous and spring was in full bloom when we were there, with flowering bulbs, azaleas, camellias and numerous other things creating a riot of color. If you ever get a chance to go there, it is well worth a visit. These tulips were in a hanging planter and I liked seeing them against the sky. Hope your day goes well. There were some great photos posted today from a lot of creative and talented folks here at smugmug. Thanks for your comments on my "mocking" mockingbird. I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with today!
• A purple thistle in bloom in the Florida Everglades; look at this in the larger sizes for the detail.
• Great Blue Heron
• Demure Lady - A female anhinga, photographed at Shark Valley in the Florida Everglades; view in the largest sizes to see the details. Our Internet connection has been down a good part of today. Qwest thinks our DSL modem is intermittently failing and is sending us a new one. However, we don't know if our service is going to be sporadic until we get the new one up and running. It may curtain my commenting and posting in the next couple of days. Anyway, after yesterday's snow, today was in the 60s. Maybe spring really will come to Colorado this year. Have a great day!

Nicely captured grooming shot that shows the plumage colors and textures. Thanks for your comment today on my monarch image. I've seen very few this year myself. Partly I assume because I've been staying inside far more than normal, but when I check FB posts for the local wildlife, I'm not seeing others post photos of them either.
