Dailies

These images are ones shot to post in the daily community on smugmug. I've been participating in this community for about twelve years. For the first few years, I tried to always post a shot taken either that day or the day before. Now, although I try to shoot everyday, I don't necessarily post the images on the same day they are shot.

Light and Shade - shooting up at a small tower at a local outdoor mall.

Thanks for all the comments on my night scene. Very encouraging to me.

Well, the weekend is here and I hope you are all able to enjoy it! Have fun today!

 • Guitar Still LIfe - I took this at a local guitar store where the guys were very nice to let me shoot their stock. The lighting was very difficult there, though, so I wasn't too happy with a lot of the shots. I kind of like this one.

Thanks so much for the nice comments on the hoarfrost landscape shot. Wow! there were really a lot of amazing shots on smugmug today! I'm pumped!
 • Still LIfe with Glass and Tins - I'm contemplating entering this in the current Dgrin Challenge, Fill the Frame. Haven't made up my mind, though. I shot a bunch of still lifes and uploaded them into my still life gallery. I think this one is worth viewing in the larger sizes.

Thanks for the comments on the aspen trucks shot. It WAS such a lovely clump of aspens out in the middle of a meadow. Really a pretty spot. Amazing number of great shots on smugmug today. The snow (or sleet) has finally arrived. We were at our daughter's for dinner and by the time we set out for home, we were a bit afraid we might not make it, as we have not yet put on our snow tires. Luckily, we will just stay home and drink hot chocolate tomorrow and eat other things that are not good for us! Hope you have a really nice Sunday.
 • Dying sunflower and baccarat crystal - taken some time ago. I always planned on using it as my daily but forgot about it until I stumbled across it today.

You all were too nice about my shot of the condensation in the water bottle. I did have a good time photographing it, though. Like most of us, I seem to be obsessed with little drops of water in any form. Have a great day today...try to have some fun!
 • Happy Halloween! Hope the ghouls don't get 'cha. This shot is one of a group I did last year for Halloween. Most of the shots in the gallery were taken in a costume shot, without flash.

I was surprised to see my shot of Maggie leaping through the air as the #1 shot yesterday. Thanks so much for all the encouraging comments. I do need to clarify, though. Maggie is not my daughter. She takes classes at the Denver Dance Center, where my daughter also has her studio. She is a beautiful dancer, though.
 • Thar's frost on the pumpkin and on the window - We rarely have frost on any of our windows, so I was quite excited to see it on the storm door one morning not long ago. I rushed to get my camera and captured a few shots. You really need to view this in the largest sizes to see the wonderful patterns.

Thanks for the comments on my power stack pic. Hope your holiday weekend is going well. Glad to hear that many of you are no more ready for Christmas than I am. We slackers like to hear that we are not the only ones!
 • Canyonlands - taken quite a while ago but recently reprocessed.

Thanks for the comments on the Packard hood ornament. I do so love old cars, trucks, vehicles of all sorts.
 • Grand Canyon, North Rim at sunrise. Shot quite a while ago, but just reprocessed recently.

Still processing my New Year's eve shots. Hope to have one up tomorrow.
 • Parachutists Before the Game - at the Air Force/Army game Saturday, a pre-game performance by parachutists from the Air Force Academy and West Point. The man with the flag is a retired Air Force parachutist and a double amputee, who lost both legs in a mid-air collision with his partner, who died in the accident. The other parachutist in this shot is a West Point cadet. Please view this image in the largest sizes to see the detail of the parachutists, including the prothestics of the man with the flag.

I was amazed at the response to my shot of part of our yard during a recent snowstorm. You all have made me consider using it as our Christmas card this year.

Hope everyone has a good day today!
 • A U.S. Air Force F-15 fighter photographed on a flyover at the Air Force/Army football game on November 7, 2009. View in the largest sizes to see the detail of the plane and afterburner. Richard has informed me that it is an F15 E Strike Eagle fighter bomber. Thanks, Richard, for the info.

Thanks so much for all the comments on the shot of the parachutists at the game. Love you guys!
 • Apache Helicopter - as we were watching the game at the Air Force/Army engagement last Saturday, we suddenly saw a huge cloud of dust just outside the stadium and then this helicopter emerged from the dust cloud.

I appreciate all the comments on my shot of the F-15. Thanks, folks. Sure saw a lot of great shots on smugmug today...gave me lots of ideas for future photo attempts. It is going to get cold here today. Hope your weather is grand!
 • Ghost on the Steps? - While the trick-or-treaters came to my daughter's house on Halloween night, I took some longer exposure shots, hoping to capture a ghost.

Thanks for your nice comments on my white thistle picture. Also, thanks to those of you who have been exploring some of my galleries. I really appreciate those comments and it is always interesting to see what photos in the galleries you like.

Have a great day!

Well, the weekend is here and I hope you are all able to enjoy it! Have fun today!
 • A view of our recent snowstorm from an upstairs window.

The reunion is over. Our dinner party was a lot of fun, but I'm pretty wiped out. Tomorrow, though, I'll be back to my regular routine and I hope to catch up on everyone's photos. Have a good beginning to the week.
 • Street cleaner - shot from the window of my car.

Thanks so much to everyone who commented on my shot of the wild asters and the Wet mountains.

Hope you have a great day!
 • This white thistle is native to Colorado. View in the largest sizes to appreciate the detail in the flower.
 • Western Bluebird - I've been archiving a lot of files over the past few days. As I was going through the files, I found an entire file that I'd shot during the late spring but never processed. This one of those shot. We have a rock water feature that has water bubbling up through holes in the moss rock into very shallow pools at the top and the birds love to come here to drink and bathe. Unfortunately, we situated the rock in a place that is generally quite shady, so it is usually very difficult to get decent shots of birds there. This was captured when a bit more light was hitting one of the pools and I used exposure compensation and fill flash to lighten the bird even more. I was pleased to be able to capture the bird actually drinking.

Looks like our snowstorm is finally over. We only got about eight inches but the wind blew it into drifts, so we'll have to dig out a bit this morning. Hope your day is grand!
 • Sedona, Arizona - taken very close to sunset when the red sandstone rocks really glow in the light.

Thanks to those of you who commented on my shot of the two silhouetted dragonflies on the rosebush. Take lots of great shots this weekend.
 • RV Park at Night - I was looking through my recently processed Arizona shots to see if I could find one I'd like to post and I saw this shot that I took in 2009 in Phoenix. The light trail is from my hubby walking with a flashlight and turning it on and off as I took a long exposure. It kind of appealed to me tonight, so I decided to post it.

Thanks for all the encouraging comments on my shot of the great blue herons on the nest. We had a great hike today up to the Crags. The only problem was that my hubby took quite a fall and is now really sore and bruised all over. I got a bunch of shots but none that I'm really crazy about. Have a great day!
 • 7/1/13 - Farewell to Willoughby, our faithful friend and companion for the last 13.5 years. We loved you so.

Thanks for your comments on my shot of the waterfall in Zion. Today was a very sad one for us, as we had to put our sweet Willoughby to sleep.
 • Willoughby, resting his head on Phil's lap. He is trying to let us know that it is time for his dinner.

Thanks for the comments on the shot of the man looking at the hot air balloon. I appreciate everyone of them.

We're supposed to get another snowstorm today. It is beginning to look like a heck of a winter! Have a great day...I'm going to stay in and drink hot chocolate.
