Dailies

These images are ones shot to post in the daily community on smugmug. I've been participating in this community for about twelve years. For the first few years, I tried to always post a shot taken either that day or the day before. Now, although I try to shoot everyday, I don't necessarily post the images on the same day they are shot.

Thanks for the commentary on my shot of the liquor bottle on the grave. It is nice to know so many of you felt as I did about the gesture. Hope your week got off to a good start. It is quite a bit colder here today but no snow so far. Have a good day!

  • Grand Canyon, South Rim - Although I took this shot in March, I am just now getting around to processing many of my Grand Canyon shots. So, I beg your indulgence for posting a few of these in the next few days. The shot is best viewed in the larger sizes.<br />
<br />
Thanks for the comments on my shot of the Academy chapel. We've finally had a hard frost and tonight is supposed to be even colder. Reminds me why I'm not so fond of winter. Hope your week is going well so far.
  • Unfortunately, I consumed with the packing, as the movers are coming on Friday. So I've chosen one of my Grand Canyon shots. I like this one because of the foreground that, I think, pulls your eye into the scene.<br />
<br />
You all sure put up some wonderful shots today! Thanks for your comments on my latest airport shot!
  • From this viewpoint on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, you can see the Phantom Ranch at the bottom if you look for the green area in the largest sizes. You can also see a trail snaking along the formations.<br />
<br />
Thanks for all the comments on the previous shot of the canyon. I think we were really lucky when we were there that the air was quite clear. We also had some beautiful cloudy skies, which cast wonderful shadows on the canyon. Shooting the Grand Canyon, perhaps even more than with most photography, is an exercise in constantly changing light and shadow.<br />
<br />
I'm going to post a few hours early and go to bed, as I'm not feeling too well. I think my dinner did not agree with me. Hope your day is grand and that the weather improves for all those of you battling the storms.
  • Dentist's Office (note the state-of-the-art drill). This shot was taken in the Pioneer Museum in Colorado Springs; flash is not allowed and the lighting is pretty dim in most of the museum, so I had to bump the EV all the way up and still contend with some noise. Hopefully, I've cleaned this one up pretty well. <br />
<br />
Thanks for all the comments on my purple people eater (seems to be the consensus) shot. I really enjoyed reading your different ideas on what the sculpture could be. Have a nice day!
  • Prickly Purple Ball - this sculpture was outside on the lawn of the Pioneer Museum in Colorado Springs. There were actually two of them, although not too close together.<br />
<br />
Thanks for the nice comments on my shot of the Air Force Academy Chapel. Browsing through all the shots on smugmug tonight, I saw some amazing images. It is so wonderful to get to see shots made by people from all around the world. It provides such a wonderful perspective on the amazing variety in the world of photography and photographers. I have a list of places I want to visit that is so long that I'm likely to trip over it. Thanks for all the superb images!
  • Raindrops on a rose; best viewed in the largest sizes. Taken quite a while ago on a rainy day at the shopping center.<br />
<br />
Yesterday was my birthday; thanks for giving me the gift of seeing my shot of the eagle at #1! What a treat!<br />
<br />
My twelve year old granddaughter gave me a book containing poems she'd written. As photographers, I thought you all might enjoy this one:<br />
<br />
                           Nana's Camera<br />
<br />
In the white snow<br />
People's voices echo;<br />
The melody of rushing water<br />
Is like children's laughter.<br />
<br />
And now, the only sound<br />
Is the "click," "click" of Nana's camera.<br />
Behind it, Nana, spellbound,<br />
Pointing her camera at the ground.<br />
<br />
Have a great day!
  • String of lights.<br />
<br />
Thanks for commenting on my shot of the crabapples. We were at the gas station and I saw them and hopped out of the car and grabbed a few shots with the fisheye.<br />
<br />
Have fun this weekend!
  • Maggie can fly! My daughter teaches ballet and gives pilates classes at her own studio in Denver, which is co-located with the Denver Dance Center. A few weeks ago, the center which has only been in existence for a bit over a year, had its first performance. Maggie is an young adult who still loves to dance and can, obviously, still perform. Flash was not allowed during the performance and I sat way over on one side, but I managed to catch this shot of her during one of her leaps.<br />
<br />
Thanks so much for the comments on my latest Grand Canyon shot. I'm still processing those shots. I think I have about eight folders of shots and I've processed only about one and a half. I'm really enjoying it and it is making me think I want to go back to the Grand Canyon and spend more time there. So many places, so little time...<br />
<br />
Have a grand weekend and Halloween!
  • A church in Denver, shot from the car<br />
<br />
I appreciated the comments I received on my shot of the water drops on the pine needles. Thank you all! I'm feeling a bit worn out this evening, so I'm going to post a bit early and head up to bed. I'll check out all your great shots later. Enjoy your day!
  • This plant looked really good in color but I decided to post the black and white version. Hope you like it.<br />
<br />
Thanks for your comments on my peek-a-boo spider. Hope your week is going well. We're almost to the weekend again. I've been working on possible images for the dgrin challenge but am having difficulty coming up with anything good enough. Ah, well, perhaps, tomorrow will be more productive...

  • This was taken some time ago at the funeral of a good friend and Air Force career man who had died. At the cemetery, I noticed that someone had left this bottle and the cup on a nearby grave. Somehow, it seemed fitting for Memorial Day, when we are thinking of the many sacrifices of our men and women in the armed forces.<br />
<br />
Thanks for your comments on my latest Thunderbird shot. Much appreciated. Have a great Memorial Day!
  • Remembering a friend. We were attending a funeral and inurnment at the U.S. Air Force Academy for one of my husband's squadronmates, a general who had recently died. As we were about to leave the cemetery, we noticed this liquor bottle and the paper cups sitting on one of the grave markers. The previous weekend there had been a class reunion at the academy and we surmised that some friends of Harold James Bennet had visited his grave and had a few drinks in his memory, leaving behind the rest of the bottle as a token of their esteem. I thought you all might be interested in seeing it.<br />
<br />
Thanks ever so much for making my shot of the Air Force Academy Chapel your #1 shot for the day. I am so humbled that you would like that one so much when there are so many wonderful shots on smugmug. Really made my day, though! Hope you were rejuvenated by the weekend and ready for the week to begin. Enjoy!
  • U.S. Air Force Academy Chapel in Colorado Springs. My hubby and I were married here the day after his graduation from the Academy in 1964. Yes, I know. I'm ancient! <br />
<br />
Thanks for the nice response to my shot from Sedona. It is truly one of the most beautiful places. We go there nearly every year.
  • The U.S. Air Force Academy Protestant Chapel. I was married here in 1964, a couple of years after the chapel was opened. It was plagued with leaks and you can still see places that apparently leak today, if you look really close in the larger sizes. <br />
<br />
I enjoyed your comments on the old dental office. Yes, it did make me thankful that technology has advanced considerably since that time.
  • The flag folding ceremony at the funeral of General Robin Tornow at the U.S. Air Force Academy cemetery. I thought I'd post this image today to remind us all of the many sacrifices made by the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces over the last ten years. It seemed appropriate given the announcement of the death of Osama bin Laden.<br />
<br />
Thanks for your comments on my shot of the redbud branch. So many creative, interesting and beautiful shots on smugmug today. What a joy to browse through them!
  • U.S. Air Force Academy Chapel <br />

Thanks to those who commented on my shot of the straw flowers. I had a rather frustrating photographic day. We went to a bunch of different places where I took shots that I thought might work for the current dgrin challenge. After viewing them this evening, none of them really have the impact I'd hoped. Oh, well, some days are diamonds, some days are... Hope your photo ops this weekend work out better than mine have so far!
  • Straw flowers; best viewed in the largest sizes.<br />
<br />
Thanks for your comments on my black and white shot of the plant with variegated leaves. Much appreciated. I have my annual mammogram today. I'm not looking forward to it, but it really is not bad at all. Hope you ladies are getting your mammograms on a regular basis. Enjoy your day!
  • I had hoped to take a special shot for Breast Cancer Awareness but no opportunity came up and I am reduced to finding a shot from my flowers gallery. I hope you like it, anyway; it is best viewed in the largest sizes.<br />
<br />
Thanks for your comments on my shot of the photographer shooting the Grand Canyon scene. I think we photographers seem to be drawn to shots that include photographers. I know I am. I'm not sure everyone else feels the same way. But, who cares? I hope your week got off to a good start.
  • Silhouetted dragonflies on a rose bush; best viewed in the largest size. Not nearly as good as all the wonderful dragonfly shots we've had this summer, but, perhaps, just a bit different...<br />
<br />
I thank those of you who saw my composite of the Old Faithful eruption and commented on it. I posted so late in the day that I did not expect many would see it. We had another spectacular fall day today, but the weather forecast is for worse weather in a day or two. Hope your week has been going well.
