1. Daily shots for the dailies forum on Dgrin

Dailies

These images are ones shot to post in the daily community on smugmug. I've been participating in this community for about twelve years. For the first few years, I tried to always post a shot taken either that day or the day before. Now, although I try to shoot everyday, I don't necessarily post the images on the same day they are shot.

Rocket launch at NARAM 52 (National Association of Rocketry Annual Meet) - We spent much of today with our grandkids at NARAM, which is being held this week near Pueblo, Colorado. There were lots of neat rockets launched and we all had a great time. The grandkids have all built and launched rockets for several years and were thrilled to get to see some of the high powered rockets (you must be eighteen to be able to puchase the motors for those and to obtain the necessary certification to fly them.) Also, you need to have FAA clearance for many of them, as they go high enough to potentially interfere with air traffic. I have a gallery of these shots under the "Other" category if any of you are interested. I will be adding in information on the specific rockets that are launched, but I have to consult with my grandson to do that.
• Bee and prickly poppies; best viewed in the largest sizes. I have worked hard to try to capture bees in the air and I have had a few successes, but this day at the botanic gardens was the best I ever had for capturing them in the air. I probably managed to capture about five or six in the air that day. I'm not sure which is the best, but I liked this one pretty well because I captured reasonable detail, as well as a bit of the motion of the wings. So often, the wings are moving so fast that they are completely transparent. I shot this at 1/800 of a second and I think the fast speed is why I was able to get a bit of the wing in motion.
We had a great time on our camping trip to Blue Lake. Thanks to everyone who commented on my fireworks allium shot. Hope you all had a good weekend and that your week gets off to a good start. I'm going to see my physical therapist this morning to see if she can do anything about my painful sciatica and then I have a luncheon with my book review group.
 • These allium look like floral fireworks; really needs to be viewed in the largest sizes

I appreciate all the comments on my heavily processed shot of the cowboy with the two magnificent horses. You guys are the nicest, most supportive people I've ever met (or, not met, as the case may be).

We're taking off early this morning and going camping for the weekend at Blue Lake in southern Colorado, not far from La Veta Pass. It is remote...no electricity, certainly, no Internet access, so I'll not be able to comment until I return on Sunday evening. Hope you all have a great weekend! I'm looking forward to checking out your shots when I get back.
 • I think this is a California prionus or, possibly, a ponderous borer. If anybody knows for sure what it is, please let me know. This is NOT a small insect. The body was at least two inches long and the antennae added almost another inch and a half. His pincer is fierce looking. Please view this in the largest size.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my shot of the craftman light fixtures. Sure made me feel good to read each of the comments.
 • Bee in the Air and Allium - I was pleased to capture this bee in the air with a hint of its wings showing.

I felt so good when I read your comments on my panning shot of the motorcycle. Thanks so much. You all are too nice.

We are going to the Parade of Homes today. Last year I got a few interesting shots there and will try to get a few good ones today. Hope you enjoy your day!
 • Lotus bloom; best viewed in the largest sizes

I sure appreciated the nice comments on my shot of the white prickly poppy and the bee in the air. Hope you have a productive day!
 • Pygmy nuthatch taking a bath; best viewed in the largest size

I spent a couple of hours today waiting for trains to come by and then trying to get some good panning shots. Not much luck, however. Then, I spent most of the afternoon processing my pics from the Denver Botanic Garden, which I have finally uploaded to my "Flora and Fauna" directory, under "Flowers."

Hope some good things happen to you today!
 • This cowboy is leading these horses into the parking lot at the Roosevelt Lodge in Yellowstone. Several effects that make this look more like a silkscreen have been applied and you need to view the image in the largest sizes to see the effects.

Thanks for all the comments on my shot of the nuthatch bathing. It's going to be a busy day. We've decided to go camping on the spur of the moment and I have a lot to do to get ready.
 • Let's go! - A mother pronghorn antelope and her baby start to run. Photographed in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Best viewed in the largest sizes.
Moments before I had been photographing the baby, who seemed pretty unperturbed that I was there. But mom came along and they took off.

I sure appreciated all the comments on my Wedding Legs shot. It was quite interesting watching a wedding play out at the Grand Teton Lodge. It was also fun to see another photographer shooting a wedding.
 • A pronghorn antelope. Photographed in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Best viewed in the largest sizesl We did not see a lot of pronghorn in Yellowstone and when we did, they were always in ones and twos. Here in Colorado, we have lots of pronghorns and when you see them, it is usually in small herds.

Thanks for your comments on my shot of the bighorn sheep. Yellowstone does have lots of opportunities for shooting wildlife, although they are not always as good as the one I had with the bighorn sheep. He was just off the road a little bit. A crowd had gathered to photograph him and he was completely unperturbed by the attention. He just went about his business as if he were alone. The pronghorns are much more skittish and would usually take off as soon as they realized you were around.

We are going to be making plaster masks with the grandkids today...lots of mess, but it should be fun. Hope you have some fun, too!
 • Bighorn Sheep, photographed not far from Roosevelt Lodge in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming; best viewed in the largest sizes

Gee, thanks for the many nice comments on my Yellowstone landscape. Today's shot is also from Yellowstone. I've been working hard processing those shots and have uploaded a lot of new ones to my Yellowstone Gallery today. I still have a lot to go, but progress is steady now.

I'm looking forward to perusing all your great shots later today. Some of you really outdid yourselves yesterday! Have a bit of fun today!
 • In Yellowstone National Park, near the Lamar Valley

Thanks for the warm response to my Yellowstone landscape in black and white. You folks are too nice!

Hope you are having a happy and productive week so far!
 • Bubbles in a hot spring in Yellowstone National Park, not far from Dragon's Mouth Spring. Best viewed in the larger sizes
 • Early bird gets the worm; best viewed in the larger sizes.

Thanks a bunch for all the comments on my shot of the bride and her canine attendant. I must admit that it brought a smile to my face when I saw it. Have a great Sunday!
 • Jackson Lake, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming; definitely best viewed in the larger sizes

Many thanks for the nice comments on the shot of the pitcher plant.
 • Morning glory shot at the glass house at the Denver Botanic Garden. I'm not sure what it is, but this shot really appeals to me. I do like the dof I achieved here and the curling tendrils, as well as the contrast between the blues and greens. Hope you like it, too.

Thanks for your comments on my bees and allium shot. Alliums are so beautiful and I find them to be really dramatic flowers to shoot.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday!
 • Pitcher plant; photographed in low light inside a building at the Denver Botanic Gardens. This little pitcher was about four inches long. Please view in the largest size to see the detail on the lip of the pitcher...quite amazing.

Thanks to those who commented on my miniature golf shot. It was a fun evening.

Hope everyone has a great day!
 • Cabbage

Thanks for your comments on my shot of the miniature golf waterfall. We are having big thunderstorms tonight with lots of lightning and I'm a bit worried about a lightning strike hitting the house and affecting the computers. We needed the rain, though, so I'm happy to get the storms. Hope you all have a good day!
 • There have been lots of great grasshopper shots lately, but I decided to submit my own version. Really needs to be viewed in the largest sizes.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my cabbage shot. I really appreciate each and every one of them. Have a great day!
 • Waterfall at the miniature golf course

Our trip to the Denver Botanic Garden was lots of fun and I now have many more shots to process. I really loved so many of the shots on smugmug today. You folks are SO TALENTED! I know I've said it before, but it bears repeating!
