1. Daily shots for the dailies forum on Dgrin

Dailies

These images are ones shot to post in the daily community on smugmug. I've been participating in this community for about twelve years. For the first few years, I tried to always post a shot taken either that day or the day before. Now, although I try to shoot everyday, I don't necessarily post the images on the same day they are shot.

Don't know what this insect is on the gloriosa daisy, but I like its coloring. View the detail in this image in the largest sizes. Thanks so much for all the comments on the photo of the little girl with the flower. I'm always amazed at what a supportive community this is. I certainly enjoyed viewing and commenting on all your photos, as well. Hope your week begins well!

• "The Boy in the Bubble" - song written by Paul Simon and Forere Motioheloa. The image was created from three separate shots, one of a bubble, one of the boy, and one of the sunrise from the freeway. This is another image that I created with the Dgrin Challenge in mind. I certainly appreciate all the suggestions for improving my "Time in a Bottle" image. If you have thoughts on how this one could be improved, as well, I'd love to hear them.
• This is my 1975 Porsche, which we had restored a year or so ago. I took the photo at the Sonic in Woodland Park, where we had driven for a Father's Day outing. I forgot about the photos I took that day and just rediscovered them and processed them. I've had the Porsche for about 20 years. Thanks to everyone who commented on my Balloon Man and Little Girl shot. I have to admit that I thought there was something sort of universal in the interaction between them. The week seems to be barreling along. I hope you have a good day today!
• View the detail of this white German Bearded Iris in the largest sizes. I was pleased with this image, since white flowers seem difficult to capture, especially in bright light. I was out photographing the moon tonight and, hopefully, tomorrow I'll find that some of the shots were ok. Have a great day, everybody! Keep those fabulous photos coming. I sure get inspired looking at them.
• A wild rose on our property with an interesting insect. I don't know if the bug ate the holes that you can see in the rose, but it may have done. The details are best viewed in a larger size.
Have a great Friday, everyone!
• In the Garden of the Gods on a Summer Sunday Afternoon - Thanks for all the nice comments on my shot of the statue of St. Francis of Assissi. It is very encouraging that so many of you liked the shot. Hope your day is grand!
• Flamenco Dancer and Musician - this lady was entertaining folks at the Cherry Creek Art Festival on July 4th. The guitarist really seemed to be enjoying the performance, but the little girl to the right seems bored (she might be the daughter of one or both of the performers, I'm guessing). We've had storms here all day and I spent most of my time processing images from a photoshoot with three small children, so did not even get my camera out. I'm sure some of those shots will make their way to my dailies --- once I finally get them all done. Seems like the entire country is having serious weather of some sort. Have a good day! Pearl's Lisa is having her surgery today and I know all of us are hoping it is a success.
• These goodies were being sold at the recent Cherry Creek Art Festival. They are simply fabulous. They consist of three strawberries and two pieces of banana on a stick. Each of the fruits has been drizzled with white and dark chocolate. When you bit into a piece, it is crunchy on the outside and then the consistency of the fruit inside. I'm going to try to figure out how to get the chocolate onto the fruit that way because they are scrumptious! Thanks for all the comments on the flamenco dancer pic. My hubby and I are taking my daughter and grandson to the zoo today. Should be lots of photo ops. Have a good day, everyone!
• Just gotta stay hydrated... Photographed on the street at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival.
• This is not a recent shot. I took it last summer at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival and was looking at that gallery and decided to use it as my daily today. It is just a reflection in a shop window, but I liked the combination of things that you see. View the detail in the largest sizes.
Have a great day!
• Balloon man and little girl at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival on July 4. I loved her slender little arm and tiny hand, contrasting with his much larger hand on the balloon. The other shots that I took at the festival are here, in case anyone is interested: http://fotoeffects.smugmug.com/gallery/8821058_W2b4S#584367827_Bseyn. Have a great day, everyone!
• I asked this gentleman at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival if I could take his picture and he graciously agreed. I actually processed the image multiple times and used a different set of treatments each time. I really don't know which is the best of the bunch, but I do like this one. Hope everyone enjoys their day!

• Dahlia - Thanks for all the comments on my "if you don't like garlic, go home" shot. There were a lot of wonderful images on smugmug today and, as usual, I'm feeling inspired to try some new kinds of shots, as well as approach my usual shots differently. Thanks for the inspiration!
• Dragonfly on the Wing - This is not a great shot but I spent quite a bit of time at the Botanical Garden in Denver trying to capture a dragonfly flying. This is my best effort. I took the shot with my 24 - 70 mm lens and it has been cropped severely. I was pleased to catch one because they were not lighting at all and were moving very rapidly. I notice that some of you are thinking the blue is the sky, but it is actually the water the insect was flying above. The pool water was actually quite dark. I did not modify the color in any way.
Thanks for the response to my hubby's bubble blowing picture. Hope everyone has a nice day today!
• In Memory of Jane

My sister-in-law, Jane Parker, died this week from pancreatic cancer. She was 63 and was a shining light to those who loved her. Her light was only extinguished after she fought valiantly to survive. We were very proud of her. She had started and continued to support a program in the Tampa area which provided support services to women who were expecting a baby which was already dead or likely to die right after birth. Jane helped hundreds of women deal with this tragedy. For most of her life, she worked as a nurse. She also worked with women whose pregnancies were at risk and helped many of them successfully bring healthy babies into the world.

Jane was an enthusiastic and loving mother, grandmother, wife and sister, as well. She and her husband loved sailing and spent many days on the ocean. She had an incredible zest for living. Her tireless efforts on behalf of her family and others provided her with great joy and satisfaction. She was an inspiration to us and she will be sorely missed.
• As we were driving home from dinner out last evening, the sun suddenly broke through some holes in the clouds and created this scene. I hopped out of the car and quickly captured a few shots. This is one of them. I'm glad so many of you like the shot of the two hummers. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I sure enjoyed all your shots today...lots of wonderful images.
• 6/4/14 - Remembering Harsh, whose kindness, intelligence and joy in life was an inspiration to so many of us! Your sensitive portraits of the people of India and eastern nations, in particular, are engraved on my memory. Your love of your family and your fellow man was a joy to behold. We will miss you greatly!
• A policeman writing a ticket for speeding. Hope this does not happen to any of you this weekend. I snapped this shot a couple of days ago on my way to Pilates class. We're going to the Cherry Creek Arts Festival today --- it is a wonderful arts and crafts outdoor festival. Lots of the top artists in the country will be there. There are always a lot of great photographers represented. It should be lots of fun and is always interesting. I'll be carrying my camera, of course, hoping for photo ops. Rain is predicted and since it has been raining every day, it probably will rain on our parade at some point. Have a great 4th of July!
• Spider - While eating lunch at a MacDonald's, my grandson spotted this spider outside the window. I hustled back to the car and grabbed my camera and macro lens and took quite a few shots. This is the best of the bunch. We had a wonderful 4th and hope everyone else did, too, and that you enjoy the rest of the weekend.
• These wildflowers were blooming near the Garden of the Gods. I was pleased to capture the bee in the air. It is reasonably sharp even though it is quite small and was moving rapidly. Please view the detail in the largest sizes....lots of nice details. Once again, thanks so much for all your comments on my closeup of McKenzie's face. Children are just so wonderful to photograph and almost demand a response from us. As usual, lots of really neat images here on the dailies, but I have to commend Michael on capturing the beaver in such a wonderful fashion! I'm hoping to finish processing the wedding shots tomorrow. I need to get them done, as I have another wedding to shoot this weekend --- my first paying job! Have a bit of fun today!
