Dailies

These images are ones shot to post in the daily community on smugmug. I've been participating in this community for about twelve years. For the first few years, I tried to always post a shot taken either that day or the day before. Now, although I try to shoot everyday, I don't necessarily post the images on the same day they are shot.

A view of my yard after a winter snowstorm - this is one of a small file of photos that I discovered this week on one of my external drives that had never been processed. I processed them and added them to my "Snowy Days" gallery this week. We actually have not had this much snow at one time this year. THIS SHOT REALLY NEEDS TO BE VIEWED IN THE LARGEST SIZES.

Thanks to those of you who commented on my shot of the froggie in the window. And another weekend is here and I hope you are able to enjoy yours. Cheers!

  • A rainbow caused by falling snow in the Grand Canyon, as viewed from Hopi Point on the South Rim. This was taken just about 30 minutes before sunset, so the light and shadow was quite dramatic.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments on my shot of the blue anemones and pansies. We're supposed to have really nice weather today and I hope you have the same!
  • A view from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon from Hopi Point near sunset; best viewed in the largest sizes. I apologize for using a shot from the archives but I don't think I'll have any time to shoot until after Friday, at least. When I took this shot, light snow was falling over some parts of the canyon.

Thanks for all your comments on my other Grand Canyon shot. I do appreciate your support! Hope you are having a good week.
  • A view from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon from Hopi Point near sunset; best viewed in the largest sizes. What looks a bit like fog is actually snow falling on some parts of the canyon.

We are having a great time on our trip. I'm way behind in my processing, as I've not had much time to spend on that, but I've certainly taken lots of shots and am looking forward to sharing some of them with you all. We spent four days in the Grand Canyon National Park. It was snowy and cold most of the time, but conditions were good for photography and I got a lot of shots that I like. Hope you all have been doing well. I'm looking forward to getting back to regular posting.

Golly, thanks for the comments on my green ghoul. I had a lot of fun in photoshop playing with the Halloween effects. Our grandkids had a great night trick or treating, so our Halloween was a big success. We carved lots of pumpkins and I must say that I think they are growing pumpkins tougher these days. I had a devil of a time cleaning mine out. Now, it won't be long until Thanksgiving.
  • In the toy store I came across these kids. Each was so intent. The light was very low but I snapped this shot. I had to do quite a lot to bring out the detail.

Thank you for your comments on my shot of the little girl with the exquisite hands. I'm glad so many of you enjoyed it. Today was my hubby's birthday and I hosted a small dinner party for family. We had a nice time. My twelve year old granddaughter made him a duct tape billfold. She was so excited. I think Phil made her so happy when he immediately took out his old billfold and moved all this stuff into the new one. I was quite proud of him. Tomorrow my daughter and granddaughter are going to be in a ballet performance at my daughter's studio. A number of her classes are performing. I hope to get a few decent shots. Enjoy your weekend!
  • A spider works to secure an ant that it has ensnared in its web. This was taken just a bit before we left on our vacation. I had seen an ant crawling on my kitchen door. As I went to capture it, I brushed it off the frame and I noticed that it fell into the web of a tiny spider at the bottom and to the side of the door. I decided to observe and photograph the drama. I thought the spider would paralyze the ant with some venom but that did not appear to happen. The spider didn't have much of a web and he wrapped only a thread or two around the ant. The ant struggled for a really long time and I felt badly that I had not rescued it. The spider worked at it constantly and was constantly moving. It was a very awkward place to try to photograph and was difficutl to light properly.
Hope everyone has a good day. I'm off to the Desert Botanic Garden in Phoenix.
  • A phalenopsis orchid bloom from one of my orchids.

Thanks to those of you who commented on my shot of the Grand Canyon. I really appreciated your thoughts. We are leaving Sedona today for Phoenix where we'll be for quite a few days. Enjoy your day!
  • Feathers on a hat; best viewed in the larger sizes

Thanks for the comments on my shot of the burrs. Yes, you can really see how they would stick to you or your clothes. I think we are going to drive up to Cripple Creek today. Hope your day is all you hope for...
  • In Arches National Park in Utah; I think this one needs to be viewed in the larger sizes. In the original shot, the sky was just blue, so I replaced the sky.

Thanks so much for the nice comments on my shot of the orchid buds. We did get Phil and new computer today, an iMac with a 27 in. screen. I work on a Macbook Pro normally and the difference between the size of his screen and mine makes me want to trade with him. So, I spent a good portion of the day pulling all the cables and cords from the old PC arrangement out and then hooking up everything again. It is rewarding, though, when everything is set up and actually works. Hope your weekend is relaxing.
  • Imaginary world.

Thanks for the nice comments on the shot of the holiday lights at the Denver Botanical Garden. My hubby had some major problems with his PC today, so I spent a lot of the day getting those resolved. Went to my daughter's tonight for dinner and she made homemade calzones. Yummy. I've never had the courage to make those from scratch! Hope your week gets off to a good start.
  • A very old cottonwood tree in Capitol Reef National Park. This shot was taken in the fall of 2008, but I just reprocessed this one.

Thanks for all the nice comments on the "Imaginary Worlds" shot. That is not a real place. I created that place using a number of photoshop effects, plus a plug-in called "Flood," which allows you to put water into a shot that had no water at all. I started with a shot from near Capitol Reef National Park and, after processing it in the usual way, I added the water effects in "Flood." If you'd like to see a few more of these kind of creations, there are some here, on the last two pages of this gallery: http://fotoeffects.smugmug.com/Landscapes/Capitol-Reef-National-Park/6600760_zdMiv#799683660_mhiLJ, as well as at least one on the previous page.

Hope your week is going well and that today provides the opportunity for you to do something you'd really wanted to do.
  • Imaginary Worlds 2 - This is another image created with the Flood photoshop plugin.

Thanks to those of you who commented on my shot of the cottonwood tree in Capitol Reef National Park. Quite an amazing tree --- there actually were two of these huge trees quite near one another and close to the visitor center. Enjoy your day!
  • One tree covered in lights at the Denver Botanic Garden holiday lighting display; this is best viewed in the larger sizes. I liked the older couple sitting under this tree, with the woman looking up in awe.

You all certainly made my day by keeping my shot of the snowy yard in 1st place throughout the day. Quite a thrill for me! Thanks.

We're hoping to go back to the Denver Botanic Garden today, weather permitting, to see an exhibit of the sculpture of Henry Moore. My trusty camera will be in my hand if we get to go. Hope your day goes well.

  • Winter fantasy ... I had a good time creating this shot from three different images. The snow scene shows a view looking down our driveway and was taken last winter. The hand is my hubby's and the ballet dancer is Megan. Hope you like it!

Wow! You all made my shot of the lady on the bench at the botanic gardens number one yesterday! I'm really humbled. It certainly made my day! Thanks so much! Have a great day!
  • A statue of wild horses, photographed at night during a snowstorm.

Thanks ever so much for the comments on my still life with sunflowers and apples. Special thanks to Pearls for her suggestion, which I intend to take, for improving the composition. It has been a busy weekend, as we are getting ready for a three-week trip. Hope everyone else's weekend was happy and fruitful and that your week gets off to a good start!
  • Filling the car with gas at the service station in the snowstorm at night; view the detail in the largest sizes. We'd been out to dinner and stopped to get gas. Since it was snowing, and with my obsession about getting shots of snowstorms, I got out and snapped a few pics. I kind of liked the curvy car tracks in this one.

Thanks for the encouraging words about my fun shot of Megan dancing on Phil's hand. After another night of Olympic viewing, I'm beginning to get a bit sleep deprived. Hope your day goes well.
  • Another just processed shot from last summer at the Denver Botanic Gardens. This young woman was sitting on the bench looking through the photos she'd taken --- an action familiar to all of us, I'm sure. I applied some effects that give the image a softer feeling.

We watched Bode Miller win his gold medal tonight! What a thrill! Hope your week gets off to a great start!
  • Looking up at the dome of the small orthodox church in Colorado Springs; this is best viewed in the larger sizes.

Thanks for the comments on my second imaginary worlds shot. Much appreciated. There were an amazing number of wonderful shots on smugmug yesterday. I really enjoyed browsing through them. Have a nice day!
  • Fountains in a pool at the Denver Botanic Garden in June, 2009. This is one of the shots in a whole file of images I recently found on my computer that had never been processed.

Thanks for the comments on my shot of the starling. Enjoy your Sunday!
