This young lady was competing in the barrels competition at the rodeo. Once a horse and rider have gone around each of the barrels, they high-tail it back to the starting line. It is amazing how fast they go. This shot captures the speed of that last part of the ride, I think. Best viewed in the larger sizes.
I'm so grateful for all the nice responses to my shot of the calf roping, as well as the suggestions for taking better shots of such events in the future. I did take a few shots at higher shutter speeds, such as 1/400 sec. and, although they were sharper, they also seemed to be darker. They had spotlights on the arena, but it was still a relatively dark setting in which to capture such rapid action. An outdoor rodeo would provide much better photographic conditions, I think. I've processed a bunch more shots, although I still have a lot more to go and they are in a new gallery, "Rodeo Shots." It snowed here a tiny bit today but we still aren't getting much in the way of precipitation. Hope your week is going well.
