1. Daily shots for the dailies forum on Dgrin

Dailies

These images are ones shot to post in the daily community on smugmug. I've been participating in this community for about twelve years. For the first few years, I tried to always post a shot taken either that day or the day before. Now, although I try to shoot everyday, I don't necessarily post the images on the same day they are shot.

• Day 127 - A large tree covered with hoarfrost; detail in this image can be best viewed in a larger size. On our way to Estes Park, we encountered a thick foggy mist around and in Loveland. This tree was along the highway and I made Phil stop and I spent about 30 minutes shooting this tree from different perspectives. The mist was dissipating by the time we got through Loveland, so it was a very transitory phenomenon. I've been envying all of you who have had foggy and misty days to photograph, so I finally got my chance. Let me know what you think of this one. Thanks for your comments on my daily in Rocky Mt. National Park...you'll probably get a chance to see more of those shots. I really enjoyed the crop of photos today...really a superior bunch of images you guys posted! The Monday Challenge group really rose to the occasion and posted a great group of shots. I'm going to post this early and hit the sack!
• Day 126 - One of the mountain peaks in the Rocky Mountain National Park in winter; detail in this image is best viewed in a larger size. This is another image from our trip last week to the Rocky Mountain National Park. I like this mountain because of its irregular shape. If you look at this image in the larger size, you will see lots of detail in the trees, the snow and rock. Thanks for all your comments on my "Happier Days" image. Have a great day!
• Day 125 - Rocky Mountain National Park in winter...a grove of aspen and clouds closing in on some mountain peaks; detail in this image is best viewed in a larger size. I took this shot on our two-day trip to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park last week. The first day we drove through Rocky Mt. National Park in a snowstorm. There was almost no visibility and not a lot to shoot. The next morning, though, was clear, so we drove along the same roads again and were amazed at the incredible mountain peak views all through the park. However, there were only a few roads open in the park, so in the summer there would be lots more roads to travel and more to see. On that morning, snow was again predicted and clouds were already starting to move onto the peaks, as you can see here. They really added interest to the photos, though...at least I think so.
I have a whole gallery of shots from that short trip if you'd like to see more of the park, as well as some shots taken in the town of Estes Park. We were lucky enough to see both bighorn sheep and elk on the trip and there are shots of those in that gallery. The link to that gallery is http://fotoeffects.smugmug.com/gallery/7353323_dWGqD#473291245_9CLzc. Also, since today is Monday, there is the Monday Challenge and if you'd like to see my entry for the challenge, here is the link: http://fotoeffects.smugmug.com/gallery/7090659_CBoVw#474497177_4bNGr. That will also take you to the Challenge gallery where you can see all the other entries. You will see "Challenge" at the top of the gallery page and if you click on it, you can see all the entries.
• Day 124 - A black-billed magpie, photographed in Estes Park, Colorado; detail is best viewed in a larger size. We have lots of these magpies at our home in Colorado Springs and I have tried many times unsuccessfully to capture a good shot of them. They are extremely skittish and nervous and don't stay in one spot for more than a second or two. Also, the black is so dark that is difficult to capture the colors faithfully. In Rocky Mountain National Park I was taking a photo of the mountain when I noticed a number of black-billed magpies flying around and talking to one another. They did not seem bothered by my presence and I finally got a few decent shots of them. Hope you all had a nice Valentine's Day. Thanks for all your comments on my Valentine rose. I had a great time looking at all your contributions and a lot of them were stunning, creative and wonderfully captured. Hope your Sunday is nice.
• Day 123 - Lace curtains at a window in an old hotel softly light a plant; detail in this image is better viewed in a larger size. This was taken in Cripple Creek when we went to the Ice Festival last weekend. I'm posting early, as we are leaving early this morning for Estes Park for a couple of days. I don't know if I'll have wifi at the hotel, so don't know if I'll be able to comment on all your great shots. At any rate, hope everyone has a really good day!
• Day 121 - A picture of me practicing the piano; my goal with this self-portrait was to capture the motion of playing. I'm very late posting, as we did not have the advertised wifi last night at the hotel in Estes Park. We're home, I'm working on processing the new photos and thought I'd put this one up just to see what folks think of my attempt at the "ghostly" sort of motion a number of you are so good at. Hope everyone had a good day. I'll catch up with my commenting after dinner.
• Day 122 - Casino Restaurant - this is a restaurant inside one of the casinos in Cripple Creek. I actually shot this quite a long time ago and pulled it out of the archives because I did not want to use one of my more recent shots. Someone asked why it was so empty...it was in the middle of the afternoon, so no one was eating.

Have a great day!
• Day 120 - I could not resist posting two images today. This one was taken in Cripple Creek, where we had gone for the Ice Festival. I happened to see this old abandoned house and took a bunch of pictures of it. I really liked the light in this one. What do you all think?
• Day 119 - An icy dragon's head at the Ice Festival in Cripple Creek, Colorado; detail of the ice is much better viewed in a larger size. The background was cut out to emphasize the ice sculpture. Hope everyone has a good day today! Keep on truckin'!
• Valentine's Rose
• Day 116 - Sangre de Cristos and Great Sand Dune in Great Sand Dune National Park in southern Colorado; detail in this image is better viewed in a larger size. I like this version of the image because it seems to me to be quite understated, but dramatic, nonetheless. Hope you all like it! Have a great Sunday!
• Day 117 - A big white-tailed deer buck grazing in Great Sand Dunes National Park in southern Colorado. Detail in this image is better viewed in a larger size. This is one of the images taken on our day trip to the Great Sand Dunes National Park yesterday. If you'd like to see more of these photos, they can be found at http://fotoeffects.smugmug.com/gallery/7293014_kvpdC#P-2-12
Today we're going to the Ice Festival in Cripple Creek. Hopefully, there will be some fun stuff to shoot! Hope you have a really nice day!
• Day 115 - Still life with brandy and roses; I've been shooting some still lifes over the last few days and this is one of them. The detail in the photo shows up much better in a larger size. It is supposed to be really warm today so my hubby and I may drive down the the Great Sand Dunes to take some photos. Thanks for all the comments on my Ice and Bubbles image. I'm looking forward to seeing all of your great images. Have a great day today!
• Day 114 - View within Bryce National Park in Utah; detail in this image is better viewed in a larger size. This photo was taken in early October, 2008, but I just reprocessed it. The colors have been altered. Even though it is not the way nature painted it, I kind of like these colors. What do you think? We had a great time in Estes Park. I hope to have some of those images up tomorrow in a new gallery. Have a great day!
• Day 113 - A stellar's jay, captured in my yard, as it was trying to get peanuts from a wreath peanut feeder. Although the light was quite bright when I took this shot, using my 400 mm lens at 1/8000th of a second, it was not bright enough to keep the image from being noisy. I have cleaned up most of the noise because I like the bird's position, but there is still a tiny bit of noise in the image. We have lots of stellar's jays in the Black Forest of Colorado where I live and a few regular blue jays. It is almost midnight and I have been processing images almost for eight hours straight. I'm going to post this and go to bed. Have a great day! Thanks to everyone for their comments on my iris and peony images, as well as my image for the "Liquid" challenge. I really appreciate the time you all take to provide feedback and support.
• Day 112 - This is a stream near Turquoise Lake, which is near Leadville, Colorado; I took it last summer but just reprocessed it. We did go to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and came back along the Arkansas River. I'm working on those shots and will have some up tomorrow. It was a fun day but exhausting...we drove almost 400 miles.
• Day 111 - Water being squeezed from a sponge; the detail in this image is best viewed in a larger size. This was one of the images I considered for the Challenges Community "Liquid" Challenge today. • Day 110 - Bubbles and a closeup of stream ice in winter; if you look at this in the largest size, you'll see the bubbles on the left up close, as well as a lot of detail in the ice. I took this image a couple of days ago on the drainage stream just off Academy Blvd. in Colorado Springs. I have a doctor's appointment early in the morning, so I'm posting this now and will look at all of your great shots when I get home. Have a great day!
• Day 109 - An icy drainage stream in winter in Colorado. This shot was taken yesterday in an area right off one of the main commercial streets in Colorado Springs. Normally, this drainage stream has little water in it and is kind of an eyesore, but with the buildup of ice, it has turned into a really pretty spot. Today is my daughter and grandson's birthday celebration, so I probably won't get much chance to post, but I'll catch up on all you shots as soon as I can. It is going to be nearly 60 degrees here today. Hope all of you have a great day!
• Day 108 - An early morning scene behind Lost Lake Slough in Colorado; detail in the image is best viewed in a larger size. This was also taken late last summer. I've been going through my summer archives and reprocessing some of the shots. This is one of those. Hope you like it! Have a great day! It is supposed to warm up a bit today, so I'm going out shooting in our area.

Three different textures just leaping out of this image! Water to crisp I can almost feel it, the sponge and the hair on the arm. Well done!
