1. Daily shots for the dailies forum on Dgrin

Dailies

These images are ones shot to post in the daily community on smugmug. I've been participating in this community for about twelve years. For the first few years, I tried to always post a shot taken either that day or the day before. Now, although I try to shoot everyday, I don't necessarily post the images on the same day they are shot.

Thanks for the comments on my succulent or cactus shot in black and white. It's Friday already, so I hope you've had a good week.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my shot of the robin with the worm. It was a lovely weekend here in Colorado. Hope yours was as nice.

  • Pouring the milk through a strainer after milking the goat.

Thanks for all the nice comments on my shot of the aspen trees in spring. I'm looking forward to getting some fall shots here in Colorado, but must admit I'm in no hurry for fall to come.
  • Milking time. I went out to photograph milking time with the goats to try to get something for the Milk challenge. I didn't use this shot for the challenge, but I do like the light and the crisp detail in the stream of milk.

I appreciated the comments on the shot of the huge broom and dustpan sculpture. Someone asked if the big blue bear is still in downtown Denver. I've never seen it, but since I live in Colorado Springs, I'm not that familiar with Denver. Hope your week gets off to a good start.
  • John Moulton's Barn must be one of the most photographed spots in the Grand Tetons. Nonetheless, I was anxious to try to capture it. The morning was quite cold and dreary. The mountains were pretty well shrouded in clouds. As I set up my camera and tripod, I thought I had almost no chance of getting a good shot and then, suddenly, the clouds lifted, the sun peeked through and I got a few decent shots. Hope you like this one.

I was very busy today and did not get to comment on too many of your shots. I'll try to catch up with everyone tomorrow. Enjoy your day!
  • My granddaughter and chief model, Quinn, in a pensive mood.

Thanks for all the nice comments on my shot of the arches and light and shadows. I saw so many wonderful shots on smugmug today. What a talented bunch of folks you are! Really keeps me inspired to do better.

Another week almost gone, so I hope you have a fun Friday!
  • Blowing the salsify seedhead - best viewed in the larger sizes

I sure appreciated the comments on my shot of the motorcyclists enjoying the afternoon.
There were surely some spectacular shots today. You folks really outdid yourself!

Hope you have a nice Sunday!
  • Reflections in Sylvan Lake in eastern Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming; best viewed in the largest sizes

I certainly appreciated all the comments on my drive-by shot of the horse grazing. And I thoroughly enjoyed all your shots. So much talent in one place! Enjoy your day!
  • Many of you take much better photos of horses than I do, particularly the spectacular shots of Gene Hyder and Andrea, but I rather liked the way the late afternoon light was hitting this horse. I shot this from our moving car, so it isn't as sharp as I'd like.

I am completely overwhelmed with the reponse to my shot of the barn in the Grand Tetons. I'm so honored you all made it #1 for the day. I think it received the second largest number of one-day comments of any shot I've posted. You all are too kind. Some of you asked where it is located, so that you might photograph it. I can't remember the exact directions, but if you ask in the visitor center about the barns that everyone wants to photograph, they will direct you right to it. It is easy to get to. It is on Mormon Row. Of course, with that spectacular backdrop of the Grand Tetons, it is difficult to screw it up too much.

I have another appointment with my physical therapist, the third and last, hopefully. She has helped me with my sciatica amazingly just by getting me back into proper alignment. I guess the pain I had been having for so long had caused me to screw up myself. It promises to be a lovely day here. Hope your day is as nice.
  • In need of a Caterpillar, anyone? On our way back to Colorado from Yellowstone, we passed a Caterpillar plant and I grabbed this quick shot from the moving car. I rather like both the color, but I think the black and white is a bit more interesting. What do you think?

Thanks to those of you who commented on my shot of the great blue herons exchanging a branch for their nest. Hope your week has gotten off to a good start and that it continues that way.
  • A group of motorcyclists enjoying a nice day in a small town in Wyoming

Thanks for the nice comments on Quinn's pensive photo. I appreciate them all.
  • The male great blue heron give his mate the branch he has brought for their nest; best viewed in the largest sizes. The female will then work the branch into the nest. Once in a while I saw a male working branches into the nest or rearranging the ones that were already there. Usually, though, that seemed to be the woman's job, while his was to fly off and bring home the bacon (or, branch). This shot was taken in the spring, but I just finished processing the shots from that card, so I wanted to share this one.

The white sculpture shot did not seem to be particularly well received, but I do thank those of you who took the time to comment on it. I have to admit that it is far from being one of my favorite shots. Have a good day!
  • Biking a country path (better viewed in the larger sizes) - I was walking along a road in Sedona when I looked down and saw this young girl biking along a dirt path below. I quickly snapped a photo before she disappeared. When I looked at this image on the computer, it gave me sort of a voyeuristic feeling that I rather liked. Hope you all like it, too.

Thanks for commenting on my shot of the mother and baby pronghorn antelope. The baby was one of the cutest animal babies I'd seen. Such huge eyes. Hope your day goes well.
  • Not my usual kind of treatment, but I thought a sort of pointillist Pisarro-like treatment fit this scene. Let me know what you all think.

Thanks for the awfully nice response to my shot of the columbines. It is very encouraging to me that so many fine photographers think there is something worthwhile about some of my shots. Hope you had a good weekend and are rejuvenated for the week ahead.
  • This sculpture sits outside one of the sculpture galleries in Sedona. Unfortunately, I don't know the name of the sculptor. I hate the telephone lines in this shot, but decided not to remove them. I rather liked the contrast between the white sculpture and the sky.

Thanks for the comments on my shot of the morning glory. I sure enjoyed looking and commenting today on so many of the great shots on smugmug...such incredible variety. You folks are so talented. I learn something everyday looking at these pics.

Enjoy your day!
  • 12/29/13 - Y is for Yellowstone! Evening over Yellowstone Lake in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. I decided to post this shot from my archives and then when I get back to Tucson, I'll post another Y shot that I took this week.

Thanks for your comments on my shot of the gourds!
  • The last rays of the setting sun illuminate the red rock formation near Sedona, Arizona. Best viewed in the largest size. I took this shot back in March on a visit to Arizona but just processed it today. I know, I'm really behind in my processing.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my shot of the bull elk. We went to a Kathy Mattea concert at the Denver Botanic Garden Wednesday evening. She was as great as ever. I didn't take my camera because my hubby said they were prohibited, but I saw lots of folks with point and shoot cameras and I was crushed that I didn't have mine with me. Oh, well.

Hope your week is going well. I cannot believe it is Thursday already.
  • A flowering branch in the spring; needs to be viewed in the largest sizes. Spring has definitely NOT arrived in Colorado, as yet. This is from my archives. Seeing all the spring shots others were putting up made me feel I just HAD to post a spring shot. I always intended to use this one for a daily last year and never got around to it. Hope you like it.

Thanks to those of you who commented on my shot of the seedheads with hoarfrost. I seems to me that people have become even more inspired than usual lately. There have been so many exceptional shots, or, perhaps, could it be that we are all getting so much better! I'd like to think that is it.

Have a great Friday!
  • Watchu lookin' at! - One of the shots I took using panning techniques. I did not enter this one in the dgrin challenge but probably should have. Anyway, I thought I'd see what you all thought of it.

I appreciated the comments that were posted on my shot of the Sedona red rocks. You guys are so supportive. Hope your day goes well.
  • Gaillardia - I've taken lots of pictures of gaillardia which are probably better than this one, but there is something about the color range in this one which appeals to me.

Thank you for your comments on my shot of the little girl with the ice cream cone. Much appreciated.
