My belated Valentine's Day shot - I'd forgotten that I'd taken this shot and been saving it for Valentine's Day. Just like me to completely miss the event, although I was on a trip at the time. Anyway, I decided I wanted to post it anyway for all you lovers and lovees out there!
Gosh, you guys are the greatest! Thanks so much for your wonderful comments on my shot of the great blue heron. For those of you who might be thinking about a trip to Bosque del Apache, the season runs from November to about this time. When we were there a week ago, the birds were beginning to act like they do pre-migration. Last year we went in mid-March and there were very few birds there and no cranes or snow geese. So, if you go, you want to check their web site and even call the visitor center just before you go to make sure that large numbers of the birds are still there. The neatest thing about the refuge is that you get so MANY opportunities to capture shots of birds in the air. So, even if you aren't great at that, if you take enough pics, you will sure to get some good ones. It is nice to have a big lens, but if you have a 200mm lens, you would still get some very nice shots, I think. When we were there, they were having very nice weather but it was still very cold in the early mornings for sunrise. The last morning, after an hour and a half, I could no longer feel my fingers to press the shutter. My camera and lenses are metal and that metal gets really cold! I cannot imagine how cold it must be in December and January!
Thanks again for your warm response to my shot.
Have a great day!
