1. Daily shots for the dailies forum on Dgrin

Dailies

These images are ones shot to post in the daily community on smugmug. I've been participating in this community for about twelve years. For the first few years, I tried to always post a shot taken either that day or the day before. Now, although I try to shoot everyday, I don't necessarily post the images on the same day they are shot.

"Neon Moon" - sung by Garth Brooks. This is yet another of the images that I created as a possible entry in the Dgrin Challenge. It is made up of two separate images. The moon was shot separately and cut out and moved into the image of the trees and clouds at night. Then I added effects in Photoshop to make the moon look "neon" as well as the rest of the scene. I sure appreciated all the comments on the redone boy in the bubble shot. The SmugMug community is so supportive and encouraging. I'm still waffling about what image to enter, but would be glad to hear what you think of this one. Thanks a bunch, everyone! And have a good day! Take care of yourself and your loved ones. whether they be human or otherwise.

• What is that over there, anyway? Mountain lion - Photographed through a dirty and scratched glass at the Cheyenne Mt. Zoo in Colorado Springs. I've been spending long days lately processing the shots from a wedding. Sometimes feels like I'll never finish. Hope your day goes well.
• Photographed at the Cheyenne Mt. Zoo, through wet glass. View this in the larger sizes to see the detail of the water.
• This waterfall was photographed through glass at the gorilla enclosure in the Cheyenne Mt. Zoo in Colorado Springs. The zoo has redone a lot of its habitats in the last couple of years and several of them had waterfalls. It was generally difficult to get a good shot through the glass, as the lighting was quite extreme in most cases with very bright sun in some spots and very deep shade in others. This one was not so bad, although the glass was scratched and dirty. I was fairly pleased with how this one turned out. And, wow, thanks so much for all the comments on the hippos's mouth. I was pretty amazed myself at all the stuff in there. Lots of great shots on smugmug today. So much talent here! Have a nice day today!
• Photographed at the Cheyenne Mt. Zoo in Colorado Springs, this female gorilla is already a mother. Her baby, about 1 year old, was playing nearby. View the detail in the largest sizes. Thanks so much for the nice comments about the shot of the bride with her grandparents. We're heading up to Denver again today to work on the dance studio floor. No matter how old we get, we still love to help our children.
• Please view the detail of this hippo's mouth in the largest sizes...quite interesting. Photographed at the Cheyenne Mt. Zoo in Colorado Springs. Thanks for all your nice comments on my parade of homes basement bar pic. Hope everyone has a good day today!
• Please be sure to view the detail of the hippo's mouth in the largest sizes; it is worth doing. Photographed at the Cheyenne Mt. Zoo in Colorado Springs
• Sunset in Colorado Springs - photographed from my daughter's porch. In the original image, there was almost no detail visible in the yard and neighborhood. I used Color EFEX Pro and some Photoshop blending modes to lighten the exposure and bring some of this detail out. It did, however, dilute the brilliance of the sunset a bit, but I prefer the composition this way. Thanks so much for all the nice comments on my giraffe photo taken with the fish eye lens.
• Pete, snapped in the parking lot at the Pilates studio. Have a nice day!
• The Bride and Her Grandparents - This is one of my favorite shots from the wedding I photographed recently. The wedding was held at the home of the grandparents of the bride and they shared a tender moment after the ceremony, which was captured in this shot. Hope everyone has a grand day!
• Best Man and Groom - This shot from the wedding I shot weekend before last is one of my favorites, mainly because of the reflections in the sunglasses. The bride can be seen in both men's glasses, although you'll probably need to view it in a larger size to see this. This afternoon I'll be shooting another wedding --- this one at the Will Roger's Shrine on Cheyenne Mountain. Thanks for the comments on my yawning hippo with the dental problems.
• If you look at this in the largest sizes, you'll see a fainter lightning to the left of the main strike. Also, it looks to me like an offshoot of the main strike is going over to a power pole. I took this on the way home from the zoo. We pulled over and stopped and I rested my camera on the window frame of the car and shot repeatedly, trying to capture some lightning.
• Another shot from the photoshoot - Our Internet access was down all last evening and early this morning, so I am late in posting this one. Hope everyone's day is going well.
• Cooper - This is one of the shots from the photoshoot with three little children. Cooper was a doll and so cooperative. He'd do anything I asked and never got impatient. I was amazed at the response to the shot from the parade of homes. Thanks so much for all the nice comments. Some of you referred to the lighting and, yes, it was difficult. Many of the homes were pretty dark inside and I mostly stayed away from using the flash. It was a fun challenge and I enjoyed seeing how the fisheye lens rendered the images. Have a great day, everyone!
• What's going on over there? This is another image from the photoshoot last week. I think I created six different versions of it. I'm not sure which one I prefer. If you'd like to check out the others, they are here: http://fotoeffects.smugmug.com/gallery/9105046_ZAAtf#606886760_Ya8PB
Thanks for all the nice comments on the photo of the gloriosa daisy and the red bug. I was surprised with all the nice comments, as it just seemed like a pretty ordinary shot to me...although I did think the bug made it a bit different. I've spent the whole day processing shots from a wedding I shot last weekend and I'm not even half done. Oh, well, perseverance will allow me to get them done one day soon. Have a great day, everyone!
• "The Boy in the Bubble" - song by Paul Simon. This is the redone version of this. I took a new photo of a bubble and, instead of cutting out the bubble and putting it on a different background, this time I kept the bubble and the background intact. All I did was add the boy. If you look at it in the largest sizes, you'll see the reflections in the bubble now reflect the actual setting in which it was taken --- although you'll see the pine trees in my garden, which do not actually show in the background itself. You can also see that there are reflections both in front of and behind the boy. Having done all that, I'm not sure this is really that great an image. The boy does not pop out at you. You have to look carefully for him. However, I think this may be about as good a job as I can do on this idea. I'd appreciate your thoughts regarding whether I should enter this or the great balls of fire shot that I posted on the dailies two days ago. Thanks, as always, for your comments, which I value a lot. I did learn quite a bit doing this little project and that, of course, is never wasted effort. Have a great day everyone! My hubby and I are going up to Denver to help our daughter put up drywall in her new ballet studio.
• This is my trust bubble assistant, who blew bubbles for me to shoot. Thanks again for your comments on my neon moon shot. I was surprised that some of you liked it the best of the contest shots. I'm shooting a wedding this afternoon and am excited about it. Have a great day!
• I was privileged to shoot this lovely little girl a few days ago and this is one of many, many shots from that morning. Golly, gee whiz, everyone. Thanks for all the nice comments on my lightning capture. Several folks wondered how I managed to capture lightning with the 1/8sec. shutter speed. I just kept taking one shot right after another. I know most people use much longer exposures, but, as I was just balancing the camera on the edge of the car window, I thought there would be too much movement for a really long exposure. I was lucky to capture the lightning, but I wanted to try, since I had been waiting all summer for a good lightning storm. Have a great day!
• "Time in a Bottle" - I created this image from two separate photos and am thinking of entering it into the Dgrin Challenge, which requires us to illustrate the title of a song. I'd appreciate your examing the image with a critical eye and telling me what you think is wrong with it or what could be improved. Thanks in advance for your help.
• Great Balls of Fire - song written by Otis Blackwell and Jack Hammer and sung by Jerry Lee Lewis. I've done quite a few images as possibilities for the Dgrin Challenge. This is another one, although I'm pretty sure I will not enter this one. I started with a photo of a campfire and created the ball using liquify and spherize filters. Thanks so much everyone for the suggestions for improving the boy in the bubble image. I'm going to start over and take some more bubble shots and see if I can implement your suggestions.
