12/14/12 - Monument Valley, Utah; best viewed in the largest sizes. Taken just a bit before sunset on a very windy and dusty day. Some of you have indicated you would like to know more about our travels and what it is like to live in an RV. I am doing an occasional e-mail on those subjects for our family and friends and if any of you would like to be added to the distribution list, just send me an e-mail and I'd be happy to include you. I send one every couple of months.

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the terrible tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. I cannot imagine how devastating this is for those who have lost loved ones and to the citizens of the town. Please know that our nation mourns with you!

Thanks for making Phil's shot of the ferruginous hawk about to land the #1 shot for the day. It was quite a thrill for him.
12/13/12 - Ferruginous hawk, photographed at the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum during the free fly raptor program. This is the largest of the hawks. This shot was taken my my husband, Phil.

Thanks for your comments on my shot of the restored firetruck.
12/13/12 - This amazing fire truck, which was restored by a group of retired firemen, is used as a hearse to transport deceased firemen to their funerals and burials. It is truly a work of art! The "Last Alarm" is the final one for the deceased firemen!

I surely appreciated your warm response to my grocery store reflections shot of the apples. Thanks so much!
12/12/12 - Reflections in the produce department at the local Fry's; I looked up and saw the apples reflected in the scale. Shot at 1/125th sec. and with the EV bumped up just a bit. In retrospect, it might have been a more interesting shot if I'd slanted the angle a bit. It seems a little static to me but I do like something about the apples reflected there.

Thanks for all your comments on my shot inside San Xavier Mission. I do wish I'd taken just a moment or two more to compose the shot a bit better. As my skills in shooting have improved and I am more confident about my settings, I think I've gotten a bit careless sometimes about the composition and lining the shot up perfectly, as I think I'll be able to correct any problems in photoshop. And I did correct some of the problems with that shot, but I wish I had found a way to not cut off the top of the curve at the top. Oh, well, we live and learn.
12/10/12 - San Xavier Mission, detail in the chapel, which was quite dark. I used a 1/20th second shutter speed with the EV at +5. The shot was handheld. I did have to lighten the exposure in RAW processing but the camera had captured all the interesting color and detail quite accurately. In spite of the dark conditions, I did not have any problems with noise in the image. I did do some straightening of the image and wasn't able to get everything completely straightened.

Thanks for your comments on my rather crazy looking fisheye exposure of the airplane. Much appreciated. We're going hiking this morning in Sabino Canyon and I'm hoping to find some nice photo ops. Have a great day!
12/9/12 - Fisheye View, captured at the Pima Air and Space Museum

Thanks for your comments on my shot of the fountain at the shopping mall. Much appreciated.
12/9/12 - Fountain at La Encantada shopping center in Tucson.

Thanks for all the comments on my shot of the man painting the face of a young woman at the art fair. Someone asked what he was painting on her face...it was a bat.
12/8/12 - Facepainting at Tucson's 4th Street Art Fair this weekend.

Thanks for the warm response to my shot of the airborne bee. It is amazing how so many of us are so determined to capture bees in all their glory. But, it is SUCH A CHALLENGE! Of course, I'd really like to be trying to capture papamugger's dragonflies, but I rarely see one! Someday!

Have a great weekend, smuggers!
12/7/12 - Bee in the air; I wasn't actually that close to this bee, so this is severely cropped. I was impressed with the detail that the D800E could capture of the bee in the air and from such a distance, probably about four feet away.

I was really surprised at your response to my shot of the red goblets. Thanks so much! We're going to the Winter Art Fair in downtown Tucson today and I hope to get some nice photo ops.
