11/11/12 - Horseback riding in Monument Valley; best viewed in the larger sizes. As we were driving along a rutted road in Monument Valley, we passed these folks on horseback. I grabbed this shot as we drove by; afterwards, I really wished I'd asked our guide to stop and let me compose the picture better. Obviously, it was shot almost directly into the sun. There was a huge amount of dust in the air because of the very windy conditions.

Thank you all for making my previous Monument Valley post with the yuccas the #1 shot for the day. You all have been very kind to me of late; I have certainly been in some awfully nice locations for photography. I do appreciate all the support!

Have a great day! We going to go to a Desert Dog Contest; I'm hoping for some fun shots.
11/10/12 - Monument Valley, Utah; best viewed in the largest sizes. I was pleased that I was able to frame the central formation between the yucca stems.

Thanks for your comments on my shot taken along the Colorado River near Moab. There were an amazing bunch of images on smugmug today. What an inspiration they are!

Constructive criticism is always welcome!
11/9/12 - Along the canyon carved by the Colorado River near Moab, Utah. This canyon resembles the Grand Canyon in terms of the size of the formations and their spectacular nature. The river here has not cut through the many layers of geological history that we see in the Grand Canyon, but it is very impressive. And, it is more accessible than the Grand Canyon, since you can drive along it both to the east and to the west of Moab.

Thanks for your comments on my shot of the female road construction worker. I sure appreciate every one.

Constructive criticism is always welcome.
11/8/12 - Highway worker; I grabbed this shot of a highway construction worker when we had to wait to be led through a construction zone on the way to Grand Teton National Park.

Thanks for your warm response to my shot of the antique drilling equipment. So many wonderful shots on smugmug today and so much creativity in evidence!

Constructive criticism is always welcome. I shot this through the window of the car and did not have much leeway in terms of the composition.
11/7/12 - Antique drilling equipment. A rock shop in Moab has quite an amazing collection of antique equipment of various types.

Thank you folks for making my closeup shot of Window Arch the #1 shot for the day. I was so surprised to see this when I logged in this evening!

Constructive criticism is always welcome!
11/6/12 - Window Arch, Arches National Park, Utah; best viewed in the larger sizes. Although this shot only shows a small portion of the famous Window Arch, I liked the perspective, the tiny figures of the people and the light on the clouds.

Thanks for all your comments on my shot of the clouds sitting on the rock formations in Moab. Much appreciated.

Constructive criticism is always welcome!
11/5/12 - Clouds nestle among the formations in Moab, Utah. I took this on a day when storms had been rolling through every hour or so. I looked out, saw this and dashed outside the capture the shot. In another minute, the clouds had almost disappeared. Best viewed in the largest sizes.

Thanks for your nice response to my shot of the flower-bedecked wagon in the Colorado River canyon.

Constructive criticism is always welcome.
11/4/12 - The Colorado River, as it courses through the area near Moab, Utah, has carved out an amazing canyon, similar in many respects to the Grand Canyon, although it does not uncover the many layers of geological history that you find in the Grand Canyon. The canyon here is carved through sandstone and is unique in that you are able to drive along the river for many miles both to the east and west of Moab. This shot was taken at the entrance to a resort/restaurant/winery that is located next to the river. We ate a Sunday brunch in the restaurant, which had a huge t.v. There was quite a crowd of rivited viewers watching the t.v. and we discovered it was showing the descent of the guy who jumped out of the very high altitude balloon, so we watched, fascinated, like everyone else. Anyway, the antique wagon was festooned with these marvelous flowers and I thought the setting was pretty neat, as well. Just beyond the wagon were rows and rows of grapes (the vineyard). Although it was October, we did not see any grapes on the vines, so I don't know if they had already been harvested or if they were not yet bearing. The vines were about four foot high and looked quite healthy. The image is best viewed in the largest sizes.

Thanks so much for making my shot of the vintage tow truck the #1 shot of the day. I felt really lucky to have discovered this old treasure.

Constructive criticism is always welcome. It occurs to me that, perhaps, I should have cloned out some of the tall fenceposts.
11/3/12 - Old Tow Truck, found at the Hole-in-the-=Wall near Moab. This is the site of a huge hole (5,000 sq. ft) that was carved out of one of the sandstone bluffs near Moab. Originally a restaurant many years ago and then the home of the owners of the restaurant, it is now just a tourist attraction. I liked it for the interesting statues scattered around the property, as well as the old truck and some old gas pumps. On top of this very high bluff, we noticed a jeep that seemed poised to roll off the cliff. I took a shot and when we looked at it, we could see a dummy positioned in the jeep, which was just another touristy gimmick the owners had placed up there...not sure how they got it there.

I appreciate the comments on my shot of the autumn scenery in Canyonlands. Thanks so much!
